ADMISSIONS TO SMAGOK

At St. Maria Goretti S.S.S Katende, we have three (3) categories of students’ admission. Which are:-

  • Continuing students
  • Joining at S.1 (UCE)
  • Joining at S.5 (UACE)

Continuing Students
Only applicants seeking vacancy in O’ Level classes except Form 1 are supposed to download and fill this application form.

Students Joining at Senior One (S.1)
Only applicants seeking admission at Senior One are supposed to download and fill this application form.

Students Joining at Senior Five (S.5)
Only applicants seeking admission at Senior Five are supposed to download and fill this application form.

Note:
Filled forms can either be hand-delivered to school or e-mailed through kmariagoretti@yahoo.com , followed by a phone call to the secretariat for notification of submission so that it can be picked.

Registration of New Students

At registration, which will take place on arrival, (after schools have opened officially) you will be required to submit the following:

  • The admission letter (which you will receive from school as we resume)
  • PLE results slip, (those joining S.2 – S.3 should also submit all the termly reports from their former schools)
  • Identity card from the former school
  • 4 passport size photographs
  • Personal Record Form
  • Medical Forms dully filled
  • School Regulation acceptance form signed by the student and parent/guardian

Note:
On registration, a student must be accompanied by a parent and should present a recent certificate for Covid-19 test

Class Uniform

The school will supply the following uniform types

  • 2 white short-sleeved (O’Level)/long-sleeved (A’Level) shirts
  • 1 skirt/1 pair of trousers
  • Open shoes/Crafts to be used after lessons/weekends
  • 1 Sweater

Note
– The cost of these is included in the school fees, hence will be provided by the school.
– Students are required to bring two pairs of flat-heeled black shoes for class use, and a pair of canvas shoes for sports.
– Female students should bring white socks which are knee-high to be worn with the school uniform.
– Male students are to bring black socks

Dormitory Requirements

Below are the items required for use in the dormitory. Most of them are for the student’s personal effect. Please ensure that at reporting the student is in possession of all the following items:

Due to lack of space in the dormitory, the student is advised to bring only one suitcase, preferably a middle size metal suitcase.

  • Mattress (6 x 2½) ft – 3” or 4”
  • Bed –sheets 2 pairs

  • Pillow and Pillow cover 1

Out of Class Uniform

Out of class uniform is made up of:

  • T-Shirt (Provided by the school)
  • Black skirt (girls) / pair of trousers (boys)
  • Open shoes/Crafts to be used after lessons/weekends

Note

No other type of clothing is allowed and students’ property will be checked to ensure adherence to this rule.
A long-round but not tight skirt is recommended for girls (Caribbean style only) and a gentle pair of trousers not tight or piped-trouser is recommended for boys.

ADDITIONAL ADMISSION INFORMATION

POCKET/TRANSPORT MONEY
The parent should make sure that he/she equips his/her daughter/son with basic essentials and pocket money, to get her/him through the Term. Pocket money should be banked with the Bursar. The school will not be responsible for the loss of any money kept in the dormitory. For students who are not collected by the parents, money for transport is needed at the end of Term.

VISITATION DAY
The visitation day for term one will be communicated at the opening of term one. At any other time, permission to visit the students must be sought from the Deputy Head teacher, or the Teacher on duty. However, those visitors are not expected to interfere with school activities such as classes etc. or the personal residences of the staff.

OFFICE HOURS
The school Administration observes normal working days and hours as stipulated by Government (Monday – Friday between 8.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m.). School offices therefore remain closed to the public on weekends and public holidays.

HEALTH / MEDICAL REPORT
A copy of the medical examination form is enclosed and it should be duly filled by a Medical Doctor / Specialist after appropriate examination of the student.

Students will be sent home for further treatment only on the recommendation of the Nurse/Doctor and parents will be contacted by the school administration. Costs of such treatment will be met by the parents.
Any chronic diseases such as asthma, epilepsy etc, or any physical defects must be reported to the school authority, and to the school Nurse on arrival.

Students are expected to undergo eye and dental check up every holiday. Permission will not be given for such check-ups in the course of the term.

SCHOOL REGULATIONS:

Prayer on Sunday and other days is compulsory. Any parent who has objection to this communal prayer should discuss the matter with the Headmistress.

Peeling, gardening, cleaning the compound, classrooms and dormitories are all compulsory activities. Exceptions will be made at the discretion of the HeadTeacher and with the advice of the school nurse/doctor.

All meals are compulsory and special diets are not catered for.

School Assembly is held once a week on Mondays at 4.10 pm. Attendance is compulsory

Morning drills/jogging are held every Saturday from 5.30a.m – 6.30a.m and are compulsory.

The school holds a Sports Day once a year and competitions in Music Dance and Drama are held at House Level.

Clubs and societies hold their meetings/activities every Friday evening at 4.50 p.m – 5.30p.m.

Students’ visitors are allowed only once a term on Visitation Sunday. The dates of the visitation will be communicated in the end of term circulars.

Class meetings/Tutor meetings take place once a week on Wednesday, alternately at 3.30p.m to 4.20pm.

Quiz/Debates are held on Saturday night for girls and boys alternately

Day scholars are encouraged to attend morning preps especially if a lesson or test is scheduled.

Day scholars will leave the school at 6.00 pm after co – curricular activities.

Cleaning of the school premises is done every morning and general cleaning is done on Saturday afternoon. Everybody is expected to participate
